Dr Joe Rodriguez, PhD (Cantab) MBACP
PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM CURRENTLY UNABLE TO TAKE ON NEW CLIENTS.
I am a Norwich-based counsellor and psychotherapist offering short or long term therapy work at flexible times during the day and evenings.
At the heart of my work is the intention to provide a welcoming, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable and safe to explore at your own pace those issues and concerns that are making life difficult for you.
I trained as a counsellor / psychotherapist at the University of East Anglia where I completed the BACP accredited postgraduate training in counselling, followed by the training in focusing-oriented psychotherapy. My qualifications also include a PhD from the University of Cambridge, encompassing Literature, Psychoanalysis, and Existential Philosophy. I have held teaching and research positions at the Universities of Cambridge and Aberdeen. Currently, apart from working privately, I also work with students in a higher education setting.
People come to see me for a wide variety of reasons, such as depression, anxiety, addictions, bereavement, life-crises, and relationship issues, to name but a few. I work both with individuals and couples. Couples counselling can refer to any couple wanting to explore their relationship, eg same sex couples, married couples, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, siblings, business partners, friends, and so forth.
I also have considerable experience in spiritually-centred therapy and mentoring, which I offer to clients who are experiencing a sense of spiritual awakening, crisis, or transformation.
My own spiritual journey began 26 years ago, and since then I have done a great deal of transpersonal work. Over the years, I have worked with a variety of spiritual teachers from both the East and the West. More recently I underwent two years of intensive spiritual formation at New Camaldoli Hermitage, a Benedictine spiritual centre in the Santa Lucia mountains in central California.
My fees are £40 for a 50 minute session of individual counselling. Or £50 per hour for couples.
Our first session, however, would be an informal one charged at the reduced price of £30 and without any obligation to continue. This first session is a way for you to get a sense of who I am and what I’m like and of whether you would like to work with me. It is very important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose to work with.
I am also happy to have a chat with you over the phone or via email and answer any questions you might have before you decide to book a session.
I work from rooms in central Norwich with parking nearby and full disability access.
I also offer sessions over the telephone and via Skype.
